My boyfriend never calls me! He only texts?

I have been dating the guy for almost 9 months and he NEVER calls me, we text eachother pretty much every day, but id like to talk on the phone too, its sifferent than texting ya know..ive called him a few times when I was away in the summer with no cell, but he didn't seem interested in talking for too long..one time I asked him why he never calls and ges just like idk..i don't like talking on the phone id rather text. Ya I see what he means but still I wish he would just call me once in a while so we can have a decent conversation when we're not with eachother! He says he loves me etc. and he would be devastated if we broke up. Anyways id like to know how I can get him to call, or at least show some interest in talking on the phone!!! Thanks :)
